“Behind every great horse stands a skilled breeder, guiding excellence“, read the heading of the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) at the 2024 breeder and studbook awards. And a Holsteiner horse bred by Volker Göttsche-Götze has placed the man from Groß Buchwald on top of the eventing breeder ranking: JL Dublin by Diarado-Canto, mare family 1907, who, among other results, won team gold at the Paris Olympic Games with Tom McEwen among other results this year.
JL Dublin started his picture book eventing career during a Holsteiner auction, as he changed hands in autumn 2015 as an elite riding horse. Francesca Pollara – one of Europe‘s most successful eventing horse scouts and brokers – had discovered the gelding. “Dubs“ has been a force on the international eventing scene for years now and took for example European team gold with Britain’s Nicola Wilson in Avenches (SUI) in 2021. Following Wilson’s career-ending injury, fellow Brit Tom McEwen took over the reins of JL Dublin in 2022. They placed in the 5-star-rated Three-Day Event in Lexington, Kentucky (USA), as well as in the 4-star-event in Luhmühlen (GER), and were on the British team travelling to the Paris Olympic Games this summer. In addition to team gold, they also secured an excellent fourth place individually. “He is the perfect championship horse”, McEwen says about Dublin. “Riding him is a true privilege and every competition feels like an opportunity to show what he is capable of.” Hindrick Stüvel of Rosengarten, the breeder responsible for Julia Krajewski‘s Olympic horse Nickel by Numero Uno-Lorentin I, mare family 4303, sits on fourth position of the breeder ranking. Ocke Riewerts from the Island of Föhr is ranked seventh due to the excellent performances of his London by Landos-Quinar (Ocke Riewerts, Föhr), mare family 3200. The bay took team Olympic gold along with JL Dublin and jumped to bronze individually.
