What a halfway point for Holsteiner breeding: following the cross-country stage of the World Eventing Championships in Aachen, no fewer than three Holsteiner horses and their riders are on course for medals. Leading the trio is London by Landos-Quinar, line 3200, bred by Ocke Riewerts from the island of Föhr. Ridden by Laura Collett (GBR), the gelding is currently in third place following a strong cross-country round.
Close behind is another Holsteiner, JL Dublin by Diarado-Canto. The gelding, bred by Volker Göttsche-Götze from Groß Buchwald, and his British rider Tom McEwen are in fourth place after the second phase of the competition. JL Dublin is from line 1907. In sixth place is the third Holsteiner pair in contention for a medal: Diabolo by Diarado-Aljano, bred by Fritz Maschmann from Wrohe, ridden by William Coleman (USA). The Holsteiner is from line 890.
Malin Hansen-Hotopp and Carlitos Quidditch by Quiwi Dream–Cassini I (Miriam Kühl, Broderstorf), from line 6082, also crossed the finish line with a superb round of just 3.2 time penalty points, putting them in eleventh place.
All eyes are now on the final show jumping round on Sunday. The situation could hardly be more exciting for the three Holsteiners: three horses in the top six – and thus right in the thick of the battle for World Championship medals.
