The FEI World Eventing Championships came to an end on 16 August – and the Holsteiner horses more than lived up to the high expectations. With strong performances, they played a part in all three team medals and also secured a bronze medal and excellent placings in the individual competition.
London and JL Dublin take gold
As at the Paris Olympics, Great Britain set the standard in the team competition and secured the gold medal with 84.0 points. The successful team included two Holsteiners: Laura Collett with London by Landos-Quinar (Ocke Riewerts, Föhr), line 3200, and Tom McEwen with JL Dublin by Diarado-Canto (Volker Göttsche-Götze, Groß Buchwald), line 1907.
The two Holsteiners also impressed in the individual competition. Laura Collett and London secured the bronze medal with 28.0 points. JL Dublin, ridden by Tom McEwen, finished in a strong seventh place.
Team silver for Carlitos Quidditch and Nickel
Behind Great Britain, the German team took silver with 95.6 points. The team included, amongst others, two Holsteiners: Julia Krajewski on Nickel by Numero Uno-Lorentin (Hinrick Stüvel, Rosengarten), line 4303, and Malin Hansen-Hotopp on Carlitos Quidditch K by Quiwi Dream-Cassini I (Miriam Kühl, Broderstorf), line 6082. Quidditch also secured ninth place in the individual standings after a clear round in the final jumping test.
The German team was completed by Michael Jung riding fischerChipmunk by Contendro I and Libussa Lübbeke riding Caramia by Comte. ‘Michi’ Jung also won the gold medal in the individual competition in impressive fashion and was crowned World Champion with his Contendro I son, having already claimed Olympic gold in Paris.
Two Holsteiners secure team bronze for the USA
The bronze medal went to the USA with 113.5 points. Here too, two Holsteiners were part of the successful team: William Coleman on Diabolo by Diarado-Aljano (Fritz Maschmann, Wrohe), line 8900, and William Coleman (USA), and Phillip Dutton on Denim by Dinken-Ibisco xx (Martin Bachmann, SUI-Heimberg), line 49.
For Diabolo, it was a particularly close call in the individual competition: he was just 0.2 points short of securing the bronze medal.
The Swiss team missed out on the podium and finished fifth. Felix Vogg, riding Frieda by Casalito-Heraldik xx (Jörg Harder, Wewelsfleth), line 749, was another Holsteiner competing here.
The result impressively underlines the international calibre of Holsteiner eventing horses: team gold, silver and bronze, a bronze medal in the individual competition, and two further top-ten placings. The Holsteiners have thus once again demonstrated their strength at the very highest international level at the World Championships.
Congratulations to the riders, owners and, of course, our breeders!
