Aachen adds another golden chapter to its history: at the FEI Jumping World Championships, the German show-jumping team secured the gold medal in front of a home crowd – and among them was a Holsteiner who contributed to the success with three flawless rounds: Coolio by Casalito-Quidam de Revel (Martina Wirtz, Hohenzieritz), line 2067.
Marcus Ehning was the first German rider to open the second round of the Nations Cup under the floodlights. Riding Coolio, the 52-year-old once again delivered exactly what the German team needed at that moment: a commanding and highly focused round. In doing so, the pair laid the foundations for their subsequent triumph and underlined once again their importance to the team.
“I’m simply fascinated by my
horse,” said Marcus Ehning, adding with a wink that he’d been considerably more nervous in the very same spot 20 years ago. Back in 2006, he was already part of the German team that won bronze in Aachen – including that legendary moment of terror at the wall. But that scene is long since history. For the Holsteiner Verband,
too, this success is a special cause for celebration. Coolio, a son of Casalito (himself a son of Casall), has once again impressively demonstrated, alongside Marcus Ehning, that Holsteiner horses are right at the top of the world rankings. Incidentally, Coolio, who was brought into the sport by Marcel Marschal, was originally discovered at a Holsteiner Verband foal auction in Elmshorn.
The fact that the German team ultimately became world champions with a clear lead of 4.48 penalty points was the result of an outstanding team performance. Marcus Ehning and Coolio played a key part in this. Together with Daniel Deusser and Otello de Guldenboom by Tobago Z-Caretino, Sophie Hinners and Iron Dames Singclair by Singular LS la Silla-Cardento, and Richard Vogel and United Touch S by Untouched-Lux, the German team secured a historic home victory in Aachen.
National coach Otto Becker was understandably proud: “What these four have achieved here has been a fantastic advertisement for our sport.” For Marcus Ehning and Coolio, however, the World Championships are not yet over. Ehning goes into Sunday’s individual final currently in fourth place with 1.78 penalty points and therefore still has a chance of winning another medal.
The Holsteiner Verband warmly congratulates Marcus Ehning and Coolio – and, of course, his breeder Martina Wirtz – on this outstanding success!
Tornado VS in ninth place in the
individual standings The experienced Tornado VS by Toulon-Contender (Vanessa Schockemöhle, Mühlen), stock number 8769, also achieved a ‘double clear’ in the Nations Cup. Ridden by Armando Trapote (ESP), the lively Holsteiner is ranked ninth (4.57) in the individual standings, placing him amongst the top 10.
The British team, which won bronze, also included the New Zealand-registered LT Holst Frieda by Colman-Casall. Harry Charles’s grey mare is – just like Coolio – a representative of the Holsteiner line 2067.
