Following the magnificent team success, luck was no longer quite on the side of the German riders in the individual final. With one minor knockdown each in the two demanding jump-offs, Marcus Ehning and his horse Coolio by Casalito-Quidam de Revel (Martina Wirtz, Hohenzieritz), line 2067 – who had been jumping superbly all week – ultimately finished in seventh place.
Coolio was his dam’s first foal. He was initially sold at the Holsteiner Foal Auction in 2013 to a buyer in Bavaria, where he was later discovered by the Marschall family. Marcel Marschall trained the gelding and developed Coolio to a 1.55/1.60-metre level. Eventually, Marcus Ehning took notice of the Holsteiner and managed to secure him for himself. At their first championship together, the European Championships in A Coruña (ESP), they won bronze with the team; in Aachen, they have now won gold. It will be fascinating to see what the future holds for this pair.
Tornado VS by Toulon
Armando Trapote (ESP) and Tornado VS by Toulon-Contender (Vanessa Schockemöhle, Mühlen), line 2067, also finished the World Championships amongst the world’s top ten. The Holsteiner, standing just 1.57 metres tall but all the more full of spirit for it, shone throughout the entire tournament. It was only in the fifth and final round that things did not quite go to plan.
LT Holst Frieda by Colman
And then there was another horse competing in Aachen that deserved a great deal of attention: LT Holst Frieda by Colman-Casall. Britain’s Harry Charles won bronze in the individual competition with the mare, who is registered in New Zealand. As is well known, it is not uncommon for other breeding associations to celebrate outstanding successes with Holsteiner genetics. In the case of this mare, however, it is worth noting that she comes from the same dam line, with stock number 2067, as Marcus Ehning’s Coolio. This success can be traced back to the Capitol I daughter Alraune, who, incidentally, is also the dam of Toni Hassmann’s Landstreicher.
And with Out of the Blue SCF by Verdi-Cassini I, another representative of the Holsteiner line 2067 won the bronze medal in the Nations Cup at these World Championships as part of the American team.
The successes in Aachen impressively demonstrate the quality and versatility inherent in Holsteiner genetics – and that line 2067 is currently causing a sensation at the very highest international level.
