The Holsteiner Verband has always attached great importance to labelling the performance and offspring (performance) information of broodmares. The star model for mares is a system in which outstanding dams are honoured. This model has now been modernised.
On the one hand, international sport data from the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) (from 2017) will now also be included in the awarding of stars. This means that in addition to national data from the German Equestrian Federation (FN), international placings of the mare herself or her offspring are now also taken into account. ‘This improves the informative value of the star model enormously,’ says breeding director Stephan Haarhoff, who is delighted with the innovation and explains a further modification to the system: ‘Based on the new international database, we have also decided to adjust the awarding of stars for lifetime earnings: mares that have achieved an outstandingly high lifetime earnings can now collect up to six stars,’ he continues. Previously, a maximum of four stars were awarded for mares with lifetime earnings of over 10,000 euros. From now on, five stars can also be achieved for lifetime winnings of up to 50,000 euros and six stars for over 100,000 euros. ‘Sportiness is rewarded even more,’ says Stephan Haarhoff. And this applies not only to highly remunerated, major test successes, but also on a smaller scale: As soon as a mare has a quantified lifetime earnings total - in other words, can demonstrate sporting success - she is awarded a star. Previously, the awarding of stars only started from a lifetime earnings total of 100 euros.
There will now be annual rankings of the most successful Holsteiner broodmares according to the star model: One of the best breeding mares and a ranking of all mares that are no longer active for breeding.
