One breeder, one stallion, two champion foals – this is the success formula of the VTV/R+V Holsteiner Verband state foal championship in 2021. Manfred von Allwörden is the breeder responsible for the winning filly same as the colt, both of whom are by seven-year-old Cieran by Casall.
“I’m completely overwhelmed”, Manfred von Allwörden said following his double success at the Bad Segeberg state show ground. “Having two champion foals is incredible in itself. And both of them being by my stallion Cieran, that’s the crowning glory“, the owner of Grönwohldhof stud rejoiced. The stud with the long tradition is also the home of Cieran, who placed in the S** level final of the seven-year-old jumpers at the national championship with Sofie Svensson (SWE) this year. Von Allwörden had purchased the stallion bred by Carsten Harms (Rastede) as a foal. The winning filly out of a Cassini I dam took the lead in a strong field of 17 competitors. The judges’ trio, comprising Rasmus Lüneburg (Hetlingen), Hartmut Kettelhodt (Kirchlinteln) and Oliver Ross (Thedinghausen), gave out top marks with the competition’s youngest foal chalking up scores in the 9.5 and 10 range exclusively. “This filly born late in the year stands out not only for her youthful charm, but also her superior quality”, was the verdict of Hartmut Kettelhodt. “She immediately draws the eye with her striking markings and her big, up-hill movement and was ahead of the filly class by a clear margin“, he continued. A daughter of Chacfly PS, bred through embryo transfer by Evi Bengtsson (Itzehoe) out of her German champion Ulika by Colman as donor mare was ranked second. A filly by Dinken-Clarimo, bred by Stephan Johannsen in Hörup took third place.
Dressage-bred Reserve Champion
Yet another Cieran offspring, this time out of a Quidam de Revel dam shone in the colt class. “This colt foal’s performance was elastic and engaged from the get-go”, Hartmut Kettelhodt commented on behalf of the jury. “The foal enjoys moving and wanted to show this as well. We were thrilled by his bloodline same as the way he moves his body.” A foal with dressage bloodlines by Franziskus-Canterbury was on silver position. The proud breeder Gesa Christiansen (Struckum) did not miss out on presenting him herself. Third place went to a Cascadello I-Presley Boy son bred by Sören von Rönne (Neuendeich). Norbert Boley, executive director of the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH on which’s initiative the championship is held, contentedly concluded: “In particular the class of the filly was very strong and high-quality. Especially the younger foals have benefitted from the rather late date and presented themselves in top form.”
Honour Whom Honour Is Due
The VTV/R+V Holsteiner foal championship stands out on the calendar of events not only because of showcasing the best Holsteiner foals of the year and the special Bad Segeberg atmosphere, but also because of the high-value prizes awarded to the breeders. For the winning filly and the best colt foal, each, Manfred von Allwörden received a Böckmann horse trailer, sponsored by the VTV/R+V insurance general agency Birte Stapelfeldt and Hauke Ahsbahs. In addition to that, each participant was given an attractive stud fee voucher worth 250 euros by the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH, Salvana feed buckets and ClipMyHorse.tv video vouchers. A special prize of 1,000 euros promised by the stallion keeping GmbH to the best foal by a first season sire was given to Marion Teegen: her filly by Cahil-Canto was ranked fifth. The mare of Lone Wollesen (Denmark) and her foal by Charaktervoll-Candillo were awarded a special price sponsored by Bense&Eicke for best turned-out pair.
