The 2023 Elmshorn Holsteiner grading and auction is history and certain to be fondly remembered for a long time to come in the land between the seas and beyond: the licenced stallion Chin Grey by Chinchero-Colestus (lot 14) bred by Christoph Zimmermann (Pinneberg) was sold to the USA for 490,000 Euros.
Eventually, following a hot battle of the bids, this very interesting stallion was knocked down to Kent Farrington, who is currently jumping from success to success with Chin Grey’s dam, Greya, with recent placements at 1.60m level with the mare for example at Geneva (SUI) and Toronto (CAN). Chin Grey is to be produced as sport horse as well as bred. The champion stallion, Corassini (ex. Corroniolo) by Corniolo-Cassini I (Hans Otto Krohn, Marne), lot 29, was knocked down to the state stud of Warendorf at 180,000 Euros. He presented himself throughout as a complete horse with boundless ability, from a damline which has produced athletes like for example Monaco by Contender (Christian Ahlmann/GER). Reserve champion stallion Uluru by Uricas v/d Kattevennen-Cormint (Caroline Kröger, Wakendorf) was worth 107.000 Euros to his new Italian owners. This athlete, lot 45, has very close family ties to Clinton I. Magnus von der Söhr by Manchester van’t Paradijs-Comme il faut (lot 42) was secured by VDL Stud for 78,000 Euros. Lexicon II van’t Roosakker (Arnaud-Philippe Bonvin/CHE) or Origi van’t Roosakker by Echo van’t Spieveld (Scott Lenkart/USA) are just two of his highly successful relatives. The average price for the 15 licensed stallions and non-licensed colts was around 82,600 Euros. “I’m particularly happy for the top-priced stallion to be in such expert hands”, says auction manager and executive director Felix Flinzer. “And I’m as thrilled for the champion stallion to remain at my old home, the state stud of Warendorf. All the best and loads of success to all the new owners!”
Riding Horse Auction: Optimus Prime Realized 133,000 Euros
The Holsteiner auction team was also perfectly satisfied with the riding horse auction. Lot 108, Optimus Prime by Ogano Sitte-Connor (Hauke Paulsen, Immenstedt) went to a Swiss owner for 133,000 Euros – the leggy athlete has already won young horse jumping classes and saw a lot of interest from Germany and abroad. Auctioneer Hendrik Schulze-Rückamp’s hammer fell at 70,000 Euros for Crazy Boy Greenhills by Cascadello I-Clinton I (Marcin Gerke/POL), lot 102. The grey stallion had dominated the young horse classes in his native Poland and is to continue his career in Great Britain. On average, the seven riding horses sold at about 50,600 Euros. “This result confirms once again that our youngster are in great international demand”, Felix Flinzer is certain.
