Registration for the field test takes place at the Holsteiner Verband in Kiel. Only during the first field test in Elmshorn (14 May) is it possible to register the tested mares in the Holsteiner Verband studbook. Please indicate in the entry form whether your mare is to be registered in the studbook.

How do field tests work?

The one-day field test is offered on the Verband's premises in Elmshorn. It is carried out and organised by the respective breeding associations (Holsteiner Verband and Pferdestammbuch Schleswig-Holstein).

The conformation assessment for entry in the stud book is carried out before the mares are shown. The stallion's height is measured in hand before the presentation. Please also present the mare's equine passport for this purpose.

The field test itself begins with free jumping in the arena. The mare is then presented under her own rider in a section of up to four horses to test her basic gaits and rideability. This is followed by the external rider test to assess rideability.

Special funding

Holsteiner mares that are sired by a young stallion (1st or 2nd year of breeding) or a thoroughbred stallion and have passed a mare performance test in Schleswig-Holstein (station or field) receive a promotion of approx. 500.00 €. Owners of the mares in question who are members of the Holsteiner Verband will be contacted by the breeding department following the last field test.
