Right at the beginning of the year, an event of the Holsteiner Verband celebrates its premiere in the Holstenhallen in Neumünster: From February 9th to 11th, the stallions of the 2020 crop will be licensed and auctioned, breeders will be honored and on Sunday (February 12th) the stallions will present themselves traditionally in Neumünster.
After the new animal welfare guidelines made it necessary to postpone the licensing date, a new date was sought and found. The young stallions, who will continue to be judged in hand in free jumping, are all three years old at the new date. There will be few changes to the schedule. The official starting signal will be given on Thursday, February 9th with the traditional pavement pattern. On Friday the event is all about free jumping, on Saturday the licensing judgments will be announced, followed by the auction of licensed and non-licensed stallions. At the end of the Holsteiner week, the breeders have the opportunity – right at the beginning of the breeding season – to get an impression of the Holsteiner Verband stallions. Because their presentation, which has taken place in Neumünster for many years at the beginning of February, will be part of the Holstein Week in the future.
220 stallions for pre-selection
A total of 70 were able to withstand the critical eyes of the commission and are - subject to their health check - admitted to the licensing. The crop is again characterized by a wide variety of blood. Casall (6) sends the most sons, followed by United Way (5), as well as Colman and Cascadello I with four offspring each. “The pre-selections presented us with a balanced vintage with a broader peak. Now I'm curious to see how the stallions will continue to develop," says breeding director Stephan Haarhoff.
Honor where credit is due
It is a long-standing tradition to honor the most successful breeders of the year at the main licensing in Neumünster. And this custom will of course be continued in the future. Breeders of successful national and international championship horses as well as the breeder of the year 2022 will be in the spotlight. In addition, other supporting program items, such as a breeders' party, are planned. The friends of the Holsteiner horse can look forward to an exciting Holsteiner week in the Holstein Halls in Neumünster at the beginning of February.
