A CSIO5* event took place in Hickstead last weekend. In the Nations Cup, the British team took the lead in front of a home crowd and claimed victory in this 1.60-metre show jumping competition, which consisted of two rounds. Olympic champion Ben Maher and his Holsteiner Catelly by Catalido-Ephebe Forever (Wulf Hinrich Hamann, Ammersbek), line 242, played a decisive role in this success. Catelly, initially trained by Linn Hamann and later by Marco Kutscher, moved to Maher in the spring of this year and appears to have settled in very well.
At the same time, young show jumpers were competing for medals at their European Championships in Hagen a.T.W. Romy Rosalie Tietje, riding Cascadino by Cartani-Lacros (Johann H. Witt, Neuendeich), line 306, finished ninth in the Young Riders’ Championship, making her the highest-placed German rider. In addition, the licensed Zornell II by Zirocco Blue-Colman (Karl Heinz Peters, Wöhrden), line 730B, and Laura Andre from Switzerland finished sixth in the junior class.
It was also well worth heading to Goch last weekend. Holger Hetzel had organised the Tiemeyer & Hetzel Young Horses event there. The most lucrative show jumping competition for young horses in Europe also attracted many Holsteiners to the Lower Rhine. Among them was the team from Holsteiner Verband Hengsthaltungs GmbH. In the final for six-year-olds, Lucas Wenz and Union City by United Way-Connor (Alf Bartholomäus, Klein Offenseth), line 18A2, secured third place in the 1.35-metre final after finishing second and third in the qualifiers. The five-year-old Kantato by Keaton I-Casall (Manfred Birchler, SUI-Bilten), line 104 A, also put in a fine performance. Ridden by Arne van Heel (NED), he won one of the qualifying classes and, after a jump-off, finished fifth in the final with two clear rounds.
