Foal Auction on the Derby Show Ground: Grand Stage for Up-and-Coming Holsteiner Bloodlines
(Elmshorn/Klein Flottbek) As part of the German Show Jumping Derby, the Holsteiner Verband foal auction is among the breed highlights of the weekend following Ascension Day. On 14 May, once again, at the historic venue in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek top-class international sport atmosphere and the next generation of Holsteiner bloodlines will come together – as much as 13 times.
The collection selected by executive director Felix Flinzer and his marketing team is sure to thrill riders and breed experts alike. One example is lot 3, Mylord Walnut KNT by Mylord Carthago-Parfait van het Schaek. The very name of this stallion prospect hints at his high-profile damline. His second dam is none other than the famous Querly Chin daughter, Walnut de Muze, successfully shown at FEI level by Harrie Smolders (NED) and also recognized as one of the most influential broodmares ever.
Lot 4, Upbeat March by Conthalou-Emerald van het Ruytershof comes from the coveted Holsteiner mare family 1916. When looking at this filly’s bloodline, the fourth dam, Wodka II by Lord is particularly significant as her produce includes numerous outstanding jumping horses and licensed stallions such as Chica’s Way (Janne-Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann/Katrin Eckermann), Conway I (Bo Kristoffersen, DEN) and Clearway (Lars Bak Andersen, DEN). What is more, Wodka II is also dam to Derby winner Carassina (Nisse Lüneburg/Thomas Kleis), who in her turn is dam to United Way – one of the most successful and in-demand modern jumping horse sires.
And we come full circle with this year’s competition on the Derby show ground: Keaton HV by Kannan and Arne van Heel are entered to compete in the 5*-tour. This means Keaton HV will not only be shown in competition, but is also represented by two offspring in the auction selection: one is lot 2, Kaiser (dam by Cassiano) and the other lot 9, Kassiato (dam by Del’Arko d’Henvet) – both foals come from famous mare family 104A.
Here, Holsteiner jumping horse breeding again impressively connects with the international sport scene.
The foals will have their first public presentation on Thursday, 14 May at 12:10 Uhr on the Derby show ground. The auction is held in the afternoon following the Championship of Hamburg and is expected to begin around 16:00pm.
