Combining the Holsteiner elite foal auction with cheery music at the Elmshorn harness racing track was an idea auction manager Felix Flinzer came up with last year; the concept has now been further improved and auction and live music will meet again on 24 August 2024. 45 or so foals and the well-known party band Tonados form the basis of the second instalment of Auction ‘n Concert.
The foal auction lot definitely lives up to its elite designation: lot 4, for example, Summer wine by Casall-Million Dollar, comes from the same dam line as Caracho by Cassilano. The stallion, a high-achiever in lucrative jumping competitions with Steve Guerdat, won classes for example in Leipzig, Brussels and Lyon. Also very interesting is lot 5: Chacoon’s Way by Chacoon Blue-Taloubet represents the highly successful Holsteiner mare family 1916. His second dam, One Way by Caretino was successfully shown at 1,50m level herself by Christopher Frazer (GBR). The third dam is none other than Wodka, whose produce includes stallions such as Clearway by Capitol I and sport horses such as Carassina by Concerto II, in her turn dam to the Verband stallions United Way by Uriko and Million’s Way by Million Dollar. Speaking of Verband stallions: closely related to Dinken by Diarado is lot 28, Kasko by Kassander van’t Roosakker-Locato, who shares the direct dam line with Dinken’s dam, Inken by Cassini I; she was successfully shown by Peter Wylde (IRL) and her daughter, Ninken, produced the licensed 1.55m level stallion Clicksem by Cardino (Hikari Yoshizawa/JPN). Lot 40, Un Ami CD by United Way-Clearway comes from the family of Con Air, who boasts 22 licensed sons and 15 offspring at 1.60m level. Auction begins at 4:00pm - well-rounded supporting programme
The hybrid foal auction is held on Saturday, 24 August 2024. The event opens with the presentation of the foals at 12:00 noon, followed by a performance of the Tonados, known as a first-rate party band well beyond the Schleswig-Holstein borders. With each number presented in a genuine vein with attention to detail without neglecting personal note and improvisation, each gig of the Tonados can be considered an absolute highlight. The first part of the auction begins at 4:00pm, followed by another musical interlude and the second part of the auction at 6:45pm. A bouncy castle caters to the youngest visitors, whereas the rest can enjoy food and drinks during Auction ‘n Concert. The Elmshorn programme continues on Sunday (25 August): Before the best Holsteiner foals of the year compete against each other in the R+V state foal championship, competitions for children on horseback are on the schedule. A visit is definitely worthwhile for the entire family and admission is free for the entire weekend.
