Only very few breeders are lucky enough to see two home-bred horses qualify to an international championship, but just that happened to Hörup-based Hans Thomsen this season, as his mares Wieloch’s Utah Sun by Limbus-Cor de la Bryère and Waikiki by Quinar-Cassini I were nominated to the Swedish team for the Strzegom eventing Europeans under Louise Svensson-Jähde.

In the end, the Swedish team leader and Louise Svensson-Jähde decided to compete the chestnut mare Wieloch’s Utah Sun. And they definitely delivered, finishing on 11th position individually and taking bronze with the Swedish team!

Today Hans Thomsen still has a 50 percent share in the mares and makes a point of travelling to competitions with them. His wife Rita shares her husband’s enthusiasm for horses and accompanies him to the big events, so they were both thrilled when the Hörup-born mare took the bronze medal at Strzegom. For this exceptional achievement, the Most Successful Holsteiner Event Horse Breeder 2017 award was given to Hans Thomsen by the incorporated Society for the Promotion of Eventing in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg.
